New Hard-Hitting Traditional Catholic Textbooks
Angelic Doctor Academy and Christ the King Books have collaborated for five years of intense labor to produce a new set of Traditional Catholic Textbooks. These books attempt to address, head-on, certain very pervasive errors across the disciplines. Instead of the typical biased United States History, public-school-style “science” books, and mathematics books which teach the child almost nothing but memorization and problem solving, we provide solid, orderly textbooks which proceed from the first principles of each science. The student really learns. Please check out the samples below!
NOTE: The books listed below are just a few of our new books. All of the books listed have corresponding student exercises manuals. We can grade all those exercises for the busy homeschooling parents! Parents are, of course, free to instead grade the exercises themselves.
Looking to just purchase the books with no enrollment in the school? No problem! Just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 785-260-7999. We accept checks, Paypal, and Venmo. (Sorry, we are still getting our credit card processing set up.)
Thank you, and God bless you!
|United States History from a Traditional Catholic Perspective||We think Traditional Catholics will especially love this book, which tells the true story of our country’s foundations, both the strengths and the weaknesses. We contrast Protestant and masonic ideas with the solid teachings of the Church; we expose some strengths and errors in our Founding Documents; the heroism of the immigrants; the expansion of our nation; the great wars, and so much more. This hard-hitting book opens with the great Queen Isabella of Spain sending Columbus, and the ends around the 1970’s. 422 pages. An excellent, hard-hitting history; we challenge you to find anything like it elsewhere. Textbook: $49.95 / Student exercises: $19.95 / Answer key: $9.95
|Biology for High School Students- a Traditional Catholic Perspective (as well as its Laboratory Manual)||
This refreshingly Catholic biology book begins with a short and easy application of the excellent philosophy of Aristotle and the wisdom of St. Thomas Aquinas (the Catholic Church’s greatest theologian) to the science of biology. In contrast to most modern biology texts, which are guided by evolutionary principles and assumptions, this textbook explains life from the perspective of the observable activities of living things. It takes into account all the causes of life, including God, the soul, and the purpose behind the design of living things.
Guided by this sound framework, the reader is given an up-to-date presentation of human biology, animal physiology, a detailed treatment of the various animal and plant kinds, ecosystems, cellular and molecular biology, genetics and heredity, biotechnology and ethics, and a refutation of evolution as a plausible explanation of the origin and diversity of life. Recommended for grades 9 – 12. Perfect for homeschoolers! 600 pages. One of our top-selling books! 600 pages.
“This is far and away the best biology textbook I have ever read. Indeed, there is absolutely no comparison between this textbook and any other science textbook that I have read. I am convinced that it will have a major impact for good on secondary education and university education in biology wherever it is adopted.” ~Hugh Owen, Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation / www.kolbecenter.org
Textbook: $59.95 / Student exercises: $22.95 / Answer key: $14.95 / Laboratory manual and report templates: $24.95
|Annotated Papal Encyclicals Levels One, Two, and Three||Papal encyclicals, far from being just for clerics and adults, are definitely suitable for high school students. With guidance, they can definitely grasp the ideas. Our annotated texts provide that guidance for certain critical, hard-hitting, anti-liberal encyclicals. A must in these troubled times to fortify your student with unchangeable Catholic truths.|
|Annotated Sacred Scripture I; Annotated Sacred Scripture II||These texts lead the student through carefully chosen books of Scripture. We lament that our youth are not reading Scripture itself, but instead often merely read about Scripture, by means of commentaries. Just like the encyclicals, these are annotated to aid the student’s understanding.|
|Concepts in Science||
Far from a typical modern science text, this Catholic textbook first introduces the upper middle school or lower high school student to certain key concepts necessary for clear thinking and a proper approach to scientific studies. Some of these concepts include: logical concepts (genus, species, and specific difference, the requirements for the formation of good definitions); philosophical concepts such as matter and form; and scientific topics such as the proper way to think about measurement, the four kinds of scales, the important of units of measurements and the various systems of units.
These concepts are then applied as the student is carefully led through the historical progression of knowledge in various modern scientific areas such as motion, gravity, acceleration, density, mass, color and light, and Newton’s amazing discovery of universal gravitation.
Designed for use in a one semester course for high school, this textbook could also be used with a full year course for lower grades. 125 pages. Textbook: $24.95 / Student exercises: $14.95 / Answer key: $8.95
|An Introduction to Beautiful Music||
More than ever, our children are bombarded with filth, ugliness, and violence, especially in what passes as “music” these days. For several generations now, Catholics youth have, in general, remained ignorant of the glorious heritage of beautiful music that was produced for many centuries before our modern times. Yet good music is critical for the mind, the will, and the regulation of the passions. This book is a short introduction intended to help achieve this, and to allow our youth to learn and directly experience by listening to many samples of the truly beautiful music created through the centuries.
The book covers some fundamentals of music (melody, harmony, rhythm); the basics of an orchestra and the various families of instruments; music as an imitation of life; the various musical periods: Gregorian Chant, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary. In each of these eras, the primary composers are identified and short biographies are included. An excellent introduction for our youth. Recommended grades: 9 – 12. Textbook: $24.95 / Student exercises: $16.95 / Answer key: $8.95
|Traditional Catholic Latin Series||View sample PDF
Download sample PDF
This is a two year Latin series. It will give the student a firm foundation in the fundamental concepts of the language. As one would expect in an introductory text, the emphasis is on the parts of speech, including the five declensions of nouns and the chief conjugations of verbs, along with mood, voice, and tense. In this way, the student will be well prepared to tackle the more difficult translation exercises of Latin Year 2.
The books contain many passages and examples pertaining to the Catholic Faith, good literature, and interesting topics. They also contain many sentence diagramming examples, which are critical for proper thinking and analysis. As with all of our courses, we can grade all the coursework for you – a huge time saver with a subject like Latin, in which the student must complete many exercises in order to get a grip on the language.
